Samantha started helping my family after I had a minor health crisis the week my daughter started preschool (and my other daughter was four months old.) She rapidly established a repoire with my kids and pets and got the lay of the land. She made sure we were clean, fed, cared for, entertained and on schedule. She is a very flexible and understanding about both the chaos in the house and what I asked of her on any given day. As I recovered, we were able to take on more ambitious, fun activities like spontaneous trips to the park or zoo with the kids. She has been a tremendous help, making my life much easier during a very challenging time. - Mary Ann, Park Slope
Right from the start I realized Samantha was generous with her time. We spoke for 40 minutes the first time I called her to ask what exactly a postpartum doula did. I asked a million questions expecting a quick yes or no, or “do this” or “do that.” Instead, every question was answered with a thoughtful, and knowledge-based response. She doesn’t blindly follow one school of thought; rather, she seems to be a student of them all and draws upon that knowledge to provide the best answer possible.
I used Samantha’s help for three hours a day for four days during the first two weeks of my daughter’s life. The help she gave was invaluable. Each day’s schedule/help was up to me. I used the time to ask more questions and air any anxieties. Just talking helped. It felt like talking to a friend. One day I asked her to show me how to wear the Solly wrap I had purchased, and then she proceeded to wear my daughter in it and cleaned the kitchen for an hour while my husband and I took a much needed nap.
Apart from the practical help, the energy she provided was warm and nurturing. It seems as though extreme personalities and opinions gravitate toward the realm of child rearing and laboring, but Samantha has managed to stay objective and level headed. She reinforced my fledging mother instincts and was the calm and confident voice I needed that said, “you’ve got this, and you’re doing a good job. Whatever you think is best is best.” Of course, she was quick to tell me best practices and drop some AAP facts as well when I had no idea what I was talking about.
As if the above weren’t enough, Samantha knows about all of the new parent resources and classes in Brooklyn and is quick to offer a few suggestions and email helpful links. Please do yourself and your partner a favor and line up some of Samantha’s time. She was a special part of our first month as parents, and we won’t forget her guidance and love. - Erica and Nick, Brooklyn Heights
Samantha worked for me as a postpartum doula, and served 72 hours over a 7 week period. She was very caring to my newborn and playful with my toddler. Samantha is responsible and reliable, and seeks to please. She arrived a few minutes early each day and immediately began her work. She’s highly organized and detail oriented, and made herself useful without having to be asked. I could completely trust her with my newborn, and appreciated having time to rest and recharge while she was here. I also enjoyed having her company and sharing interesting conversation with her. - Tina, Crown Heights
